The designs for the proposed public shelter on Ben Lomond will be unveiled to the public for the first time. It will also include amenities such as a public toilet. PWS Regional Director North Donna Stanley said the walk-in session will give the community the opportunity to see the plans firsthand. “The refuge will not only provide a safe and comfortable space for skiers and those who take advantage of the snow to warm up, but also a facility for those who enjoy short walks and admire the magnificent avian fauna and wildflowers of the park during the winter months. warmer months, ”Ms. Stanley said. . She said the session would allow the community to provide feedback on the new shelter. Ben Lomond operators recently called for more investment on the peak after experiencing a poor season due to weather and the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to the shelter designs, preliminary designs for a multi-purpose facility will also be on display. The multi-purpose facility was not budgeted for. RELATED: “Invest in the Mountain or Lose It Forever,” Ms Stanley Said As part of her pledge to make Ben Lomond a year-round destination, PWS tasked Cumulus Studio to consider a future expansion of the new shelter to allow commercial operators and other service providers. “This longer term plan for the site will ensure that if interested operators are looking to invest, we will have enough space and a design that can meet their needs,” she said. PWS will undertake further design, resource review and consultation work on the Stage 2 concept over the coming months. The new public shelter should be operational by winter 2021 and will replace the old shelter. The community is invited to view the plans on Saturday at Evandale Memorial Hall between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
